A message from BCT's CEO about the bushfire crisis

View the steps we recommend to take for post-fire recovery and conservation.

We would like to express our heartfelt condolences to the people and communities impacted by the current bushfire emergency.

The BCT is dedicated to working with landholders to conserve our precious and unique biodiversity in NSW.

We now know that more than 50,000 hectares across 250 landholders who have private land conservation agreements with the BCT have been directly impacted by the fires across NSW, not to mention the broader impacts on people, homes, national parks, businesses and communities. We have been shocked and saddened by the extent and severity of the fires and their impact on our landholders and the environment so far.

We are keen to support impacted landholders with technical advice or financial assistance. We are reviewing our grant guidelines to ensure we can assist landholders who may need financial assistance to restore the conservation values of their properties.

We encourage impacted landholders to get in touch if you think we may be able to help, if and when you are ready to do so via [email protected] or by calling 1300 992 688. We may be able to assist with technical advice on the best way to restore your conservation area. We may also be able to assist with our Conservation Partners Grants with activities such as weed control, fencing or assisted revegetation.

We would also like to recognise the courageous and tireless efforts of firefighters and volunteers who have risked their lives to keep our communities and wildlife safe. The fires are still burning and we have some tough days ahead. Please stay safe and up to date with news from the Rural Fire Service’s Fires Near Me.
